We believe open source and paid software can both  work and benefit the  end user ,for the home  user and business user open source can seam like a great bargain ( as most is very low cost or free)the main argument against open source

1) Is it compatible with other users and formats .
2) the hidden costs of retaining staff on a new piece of software.

If like me you fill the extra training far outweighs the cost of buying five copies of ms office then you would at least try open source and select the most appropriate for yourself & purchase the full retail version of any software you feel is superior .

Dia is inspired by the commercial Windows program 'Visio', though more geared towards informal diagrams for casual use. It can be used to draw many different kinds of diagrams. It currently has special objects to help draw entity relationship diagrams, UML diagrams, flowcharts, network diagrams, and many other diagrams. It is also possible to add support for new shapes by writing simple XML files, using a subset of SVG to draw the shape.
